Czech secondary school students from city Litomysl in east Bohemia have won the engineering category in the INTEL ISEF 2009, prestigious international competition of scientific and technological projects in the United States, Chairman of the Czech Association for Youth, Science and Technology Stanislav Medricky said on Sunday.
The competition was participated in by more than 1,500 finalists from 57 countries, who entered more than 1,200 projects, including 278 team works.
Three Czech students won with their project called EiMSA Robot in a competition of 278 team projects. The robot is capable of searching for objects by means of its own program and of manipulation with them either with the help of an automatic system or manual control via a computer.
In the environment category, another Czech student won a special prize in a competition of 101 works. He was competing with a project called Removing antibiotics from waste water.
Intel ISEF (Intel International Science and Engineering Fair) has been held in the United States since 1950.
