E-mail is not ranked among the newest communication agents; nonetheless it is still used in large worldwide. Some opinions of its ending are recently coming up. What is in real?
Electronic mail was one of the very first functions of computer web. First e-mails that were sent from army web called Arpanet in early 70´s of the last century are technically not diverse from those that are daily moving the web these days. They were neither not missing the @ symbol used for separating recipient from his address. E-mails started carrying attachments as time went on. It has become a universal internet user ID due to the uniqueness of the electronic mail address.
E-mail disadvantages
Even today e-mail serves for sending text files and for discussing individuals inside their work groups although it is facing series of problems. If many people are involved in discussion, their electronic mail boxes are quickly flooded by plenty of messages and processing them is problematic. If a group is discussing form of a particular text, it is hard to follow its final form once many remarks have been made. There are many forms of text is going round and some of them are easily lost.
New applications
There are application existing for some time that can overrun the electronic mail. We are talking about Facebook or Twitter, real-time on-line discussions, documents places on web that can be modified in front of the others. The highest popularity has reached Facebook with 300 million worldwide users. It is user friendly with no need of complicated adjustment.
E-mail position still remains strong. Electronic address is often necessary for using social networks or their checking up. For example, user is notified about new posts on social network by an automatic e-mail.

Google Wave
Two engineers from The Google Company tried to modernize actual electronic mail technology in 2004. The result was recently launched Google Wave service enabling discussing people sending messages, commenting on their common projects, collaborating on document creation etc.
According to its creators, Google Wave would become a full-fledged displacement for e-mail. Communication her is proceeded in so called waves that overpowers limitations of present electronic mail. Besides text application, waves could be extended by other services such as sharing photo albums or internet telephony.

First private companies are now developing their own add-ons – tools for joint creation of business projects or joint editing of Microsoft Office documents. It is a next step in a way to web applications that can be used only on a computer connected to the internet without necessity of having installed any software.
